Roots in Farming
Bijoy, an 18-year-old from the misty hills of Darjeeling, comes from a family of farmers. “My family are farmers. We work in agriculture, and our main source of income comes from farming,” he shares. Seasonal farming made income unpredictable, and frequent crop failures due to lack of modern techniques made it difficult to support his family.
A Spark of Opportunity
Bijoy learned about the Solar Pump Technician Training through a village awareness camp. Motivated to gain new skills and secure a steady income, he enrolled in the program, eager for a pathway beyond traditional farming.
During the training, Bijoy acquired hands-on skills in installing, operating, and maintaining solar pumps, wiring, troubleshooting, and safety practices. The guidance from trainers boosted both his technical knowledge and confidence.
Post-training, Bijoy secured employment earning ₹11,200 CTC, with food and accommodation provided. The steady income has eased his family’s financial burden and brought stability to his life.
Impact Beyond Self
Bijoy now conducts community-level and door-to-door solar demonstrations, connecting buyers with dealers and promoting solar adoption across neighboring farms. His efforts demonstrate how skill development empowers youth to become community changemakers.
With technical expertise, confidence, and a vision to expand renewable energy access, Bijoy is shaping a sustainable future for himself and his community, proving that targeted training can transform lives.
